When should I start preparing for tax season?

Start early, in January if possible. That said, it’s a good idea to have a designated folder, physical or digital, where you can easily store important tax documents and receipts throughout the year.

I’m a new client, what will I need to bring?

Income sources like W-2s or 1099s, receipts and compilations of deductible expenses, IRS or State of Alabama notices, and previous tax returns.

What is your process for preparing tax returns?

We primarily ask clients to drop off their documents in person or send them to us through their secure portal. Returns are generally worked in the order they’re received. Our preparers take time to inventory and review every document, and are in communication with you during the process. Once your return is completed, the preparer will go over the return with you and answer any question you may have. Our goal is to not just complete the return, but to educate you on how we got to the result. We want you to feel comfortable and confident before it is filed.

How is Vick Accounting different from a "fast tax" company?

We focus on accuracy, year-round planning, and long-term savings – not just quick returns during tax season.

Can you help with past-due or amended tax returns?

Yes. We can both file or amend previous returns. We also can advise and help you negotiate and correspond with the IRS and the State of Alabama regarding back taxes.

What if I get audited or receive a letter from a collection agency?

Don’t panic! Bring the notice by our office or email it to us. We’ll review it, explain what it means, and can assist with any audit preparation or correspondence.

Can you help me choose the right business structure?

Absolutely! We can explain the differences between different tax classifications such as S-Corps or C-Corps, and can advise you based on what your goals and needs are.

How do you ensure my information stays secure and confidential?

All tax return information is securely stored and kept confidential under strict privacy standards.

What kind of bookkeeping services do you offer?

We offer monthly account reconciliation and compilation, as well as QuickBooks Online review and assistance for clients who keep their own books.

What kind of payroll services do you offer?

We are proud partners with ADP, and can help you with everything from initial set up to payroll administration.

Do you offer business consulting?

Yes. We have extensive experience with small businesses. We can advise on practices that lead to success and pitfalls to avoid. We can analyze cash flow, expenses, and help you make a plan for growth that is driven by data and experience.

Is it worth meeting with a tax professional outside of tax season?

Yes! We often say “tax season is the worst time for tax planning” because often by then it is too late to do anything. One of the most difficult aspects of our job is when a client gets surprised with an unexpected tax liability. We highly encourage clients to come in during the year to let us see if you’re building a liability, and possible solutions or things you can do to prepare in advance.
